Holden Beach Day Six

The waves on day six were absolutely unreal.  I have never experienced such strong and powerful waves.  I tried to get out in the water a small distance for an hour and a half but only succeeded in getting pushed further and further down to the east.  Brendan, Julia, Nicole, my parents and I took a camera out to try to get water pictures, but we kept getting pounded again and again, so I’m fairly certain none of them turned out.  After a morning of reading wedding books and trying to swim, we ate leftovers for lunch and played cards for the afternoon.  At 3:30, our room started to shower and get ready to go out to dinner and take family pictures.  I did Julia and Nicole’s make-up, and we all wore our North Carolina blue Day family shirts.  On the front they say “The Day Family: Better Than Your Family Since 1961.”  And on the back, they have each of our nicknames and numbers.  I am bossy calf number eight.  At five, I went to ask our neighbors to take a few full group pictures, which turned out really nicely, and then we took what seemed like every possible combination of family pictures.  Once six rolled around, we piled in the cars and drove to the Cattle Barn in Shallotte to eat dinner out for Nanny and Po’s 50th wedding anniversary.  The restaurant was really nice and perfect for Nanny and Po.  On the brick walls hung antlers and animals, and each booth had a gun on a plaque.  To eat, Brendan and I shared the seafood platter with flounder, shrimp, scallops and crab cake with fried okra and bread as sides.  We also shared key lime pie and a dish of ice-cream with chocolate syrup for dessert.  After dinner we drove back to the house and played the oh hell tournament Liam was so excitedly anticipating.  After five or six games, Po finally made it to the winner’s table, but the game was the last of the night, so he never actually got to play at it.  Oh well, he was a good sport anyway.  After the tournament, Nicole, my dad and I edited pictures before going to bed at around 11:45.
